  • The objective of this research:(1) to know the students’ ability in reading comprehension by using Pairs-Check Technique (PCT), (2) to know is the students’ ability in reading comprehension without using Pairs-Check Technique (PCT), and (3) to know whether is there any significance different on students’ ability between using Pairs-Check Technique (PCT) and without using Pairs-Check Technique (PCT). This research is a quasi experimental research which the data is analyzed quantitatively. The subject of the research is students class VIII of MTs Ni’matul Aziz in the academic year 2017/2018 that consist of 60 students.The instruments of collecting data were test to measure students’ ability. Furthermore, t test is used in order to find the effectiveness of pairs – check technique on experiment and control class. The result of this research showed that: (1) Students’ ability in experiment class was 72.67 that classified into good category and had increasing 26.14. (2) students’ ability in control class was 56.67 that classified into fair category and had increasing 15.74. (3) There was a significant difference between Experiment class by giving pairs – check technique and control class without giving pairs – check technique. It was showed with t table (5% = 2,00)< ttest (4.26) < ttable (1% = 2,65) in 5% and 1% significant degree, therefore Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. So, this research indicated that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted because the students’ ttest is higher than ttable.
