The objective of this research: (1) to know how are the students’ achievement between experiment class by giving homework and control class without homework at class VII of MTs Diniyah Babussalam Banjarmasin academic years 2016/2017, (2) to know is there significant difference on students’ achievement between experiment class and control class of MTs Diniyah Babussalam, and (3) to know how are the students’ responses to homework given in learning English at experiment class of MTs Diniyah Babussalam. This research is a quasi experimental research which the data is analyzed quantitatively. The subject of the research is students class VII of MTs Diniyah Babussalam in the academic years 2016/2017 that consist of 33 students. The instruments of collecting data were test to measure students’ achievement, questionnaire to know the students’ response to learning activities by giving homework. Furthermore, t test is used in order to find the effectiveness of homework on experiment and control class. The result of this research showed that: (1) Students’ achievement in experiment class was 74.82 that classified into good category and had increasing 53.64. While students’ achievement in control class was 62.75 that classified into fair category and had increasing 39.25. The difference of increasing persentage from pre test to post test in experiment class with 25.32% was bigger than in control class with 16.70%. So, Giving homework on students’ achievement was effective with 8.62% of effect size. (2) There was a significant difference between Experiment class by giving homework and control class without giving homework. It was showed with t table < t test (2.05 < 2.88 ) in 5% sifnificant degree, therefore Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. (3) The students responses were positive since they find some benefit and advantages of homework for them.
