- This Writing will describe the way of Asy'ariah's thinking in Islamic theology. By knowing it, we will understand Asy'ariah uniqueness than other Islamic theology schools. On the first fourth century of Hijriah, there were three schools in history of Islamic thought; Salafiah, Islamic philosophy and Mu'tazilah. Pioneered by al-Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, Slafiah based its thought on revelation (text) as the only one sources in understanding Islamic theology. Islamic philosophy school tended to use rational arguments in understanding Islamic theology, Mu'tazilah tried combining textual and rational arguments in understanding it, but giving priority to rational arguments than textual arguments. Contradicted with the schools above, Asy'ariah combined textual and rational arguments by considering text as guidance for ratio. Then, they consider that good and evil deed only could be known with revelation, not ratio. They also believe that ratio could know God's existence, but it could not know the obligation to believe and thank him except through revelation.
