This study describes about the communication strategy used by the English acceleration class students of Language Development Center at IAIN Antasari academic year 2015//2016. The problems which are investigated in this research are the differences between communication strategies used by male and female students, and the common communication strategy used by English acceleration class students academic year 2015/2016. The subject of this research is consisted of 40 males and females English accelerated students of Language Development Center. There are 14 male and 26 female students. Object of this study are the differences of communication strategies used by the male and female students of English acceleration class, and the most common communication strategies used by English acceleration class students. To collect the data, the writer used observation and questionnaire. Data processing in this study is divided into four steps. They are editing, coding, tabulation, and scoring. Then, all the data are analyzed descriptive quantitavely. The result showed that there are differences between male and female students communication strategy. The male students tend to always use the mime or non-verbal signal strategy, and often use communication strategy such as stealing or time gaining strategies, appeals for assistance, self-repair or restructuring, approximation or generalization, and circumlocution. On the other hand, the female students tend to often use the communication strategy such as stealing or time gaining strategies, mime or non verbal signal, appeals for assistance, self-repair or restructuring, and use of all-purpose words. The result of the students’ most common communication strategies is five types communication strategies. They are mime or non-verbal signal, stealing or time-gaining strategies, appeals for assistance, self-repair or restructuring, and use of all purpose words.
