The Students' Competence in English Speech in Darul Hijrah Islamic Boarding School for Girls Academic Year 2015/2016

The problem formulation of this research are: How is the students’ competence in English speech in Darul Hijrah Islamic Boarding School for Girls and what is the students’ most difficult aspect in performing English speech in Darul Hijrah Islamic Boarding School for Girls. The population of this research are 96 students of IV TMI grade academic year 2015/2016. The researcher takes 31% or 30 students as the sample of this research. To collect the data, the writer used test as a technique of data collecting. Data processing in this research is divided into some stages, they are editing, scoring, coding and data interpretation. Then all data are analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. The result of the research shows that the competence of IV TMI grade students in performing English speech is in good category because the average of the test result is 71.4. Students’ highest score of the English speech performance is 95 and the lowest score English speech performance is 55. There are 9 students (30%) with the score about 80-100, 14 students (47%) with the score about 60-<80 and 7 students (23%) with the score about 40-<60 and there is no one who get score about 20-<40 and 0-<20. The students’ most difficult aspect in performing English speech are poise, body language and vocal.
