This research describes the mastery of the eleventh grade students in grammatical writing, especially present tense, present continuous tense, present perfect tense, past tense, and future tense in positive, negative, and interrogative sentence at State Islamic Senior High School Pugaan Tabalong Regency academic year 2008/2009. The problem formulation of this research: how is the mastery of the eleventh grade students in grammatical writing at State Islamic Senior High School Pugaan Tabalong Regency academic year 2008/2009 and what factors are supposed to influence students’ mastery in grammatical writing. The subjects of this research are 55 students of eleventh grade and divided into three classes. These are XI IPA, XI IPS, and XI AGAMA at State Islamic Senior High School Pugaan Tabalong Regency academic year 2008/2009. The object of this research is the mastery of the eleventh grade students in grammatical writing at State Islamic Senior High School Pugaan Tabalong Regency academic year 2008/2009. To collect the data the writer uses some techniques such as written test, questionnaire, interview, documentary, and observation. Data processing in this research are divided into five phases such as editing, coding, classification, tabulating, and interpretation. Then all data are analyzed descriptive quantitatively. The result of this research indicates that the mastery of the eleventh grade students in grammatical writing at State Islamic Senior High School Pugaan Tabalong Regency academic year 2008/2009 is in enough category. It is known by the mean score of the students’ test result that is 52, 87. It is caused by some factors that influence in students’ mastery in grammatical writing which is shown as follows: Students’ activities at school and outside the school are in seldom activities, so these factors influence to their mastery in grammatical writing, Teachers’ skill is in less interest or fair skilled teacher, this factor also influence to their mastery in grammatical writing. Although the students are interested in learning English and supported by high facilities, but these factors are not influenced to their mastery in grammatical writing.
