This research describes about comparison of students ability in English reading comprehension between students using manual and electronic dictionary. The problems of the research are: 1) How is the students’ ability in English reading comprehension using manual dictionary? 2) How is the student’s ability in English reading comprehension using electronic dictionary?, and 3) Is there any difference ability between the students ability using manual and electronic dictionary of social major at the eleventh grade of MAN I Marabahan? Population of the research is all eleventh grade of social major of MAN I Marabahan academic year 2012/2013. The samples of the research are 28 students who were taken by using proportional stratified random sampling technique. To collect the data, the writer uses some techniques such as written test, observation and interview. Then all of the data that have been collected are processed using quantitative statistic method. The writer uses t-test to measure the comparison study to get final the result. The result of the research indicates that the reading comprehension of student’s using manual dictionary is 81.31 which in excellent category and students using electronic dictionary is 69.1 which in fair category. The result of the calculation using t-test is 2.90 with t table at df 26 in the significance standard 5% = 2.06 and also 1% = 2.78. Thus, t table is lower than t count. Ho (Zero Hypothesis) is rejected and Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) is accepted. By this result, the writer concludes that Ho is rejected. By the result, there is difference in students’ ability in English reading comprehension using manual and electronic dictionary of social major at the eleventh grade of MAN I Marabahan academic year 2012/2013.
