This thesis describes about Minimizing Students’ Error in Writing Application Letter through Instructional Model “Cooperative Learning STAD” at Eleventh Grade of Natural Science Program 1 at MAN Negara Academic Year 2011/2012. This study is intended to know the errors students make at the eleventh grade of Natural Science Program 1 at MAN Negara in writing application letter, to know the application of the instructional model “cooperative learning STAD by the teacher and to know whether instructional model “Cooperative Learning STAD” can minimize students’ errors in writing application letter. The problems of this research are what errors the students make at eleventh grade of Natural Science Program I at MAN Negara in writing application letter, how the teacher applies the instructional model “Cooperative Learning STAD, and whether instructional model “Cooperative Learning STAD” can minimize the errors in writing application letter. The subjects of this research are the students at eleventh grade of natural science program 1 at MAN Negara, which consists of 40 students in academic year 2011/2012 and the English teacher. Meanwhile, the object of this research is Minimizing Students’ Errors in Writing Application Letter through Instructional Model “Cooperative Learning STAD” at Eleventh Grade of Natural Science Program 1 at MAN Negara academic year 2011/2012. The data are collected through written test, interview, observation and documentary. Data in this research are processed through editing, coding, classifying, tabulating and data interpretation. The data are analyzed by using descriptive qualitative analysis. The result of this study is shows that the errors made by the students are punctuation, capitalization, spelling, omission and addition errors. The application of instructional model “Cooperative Learning STAD” by the English teacher in the process of teaching and learning is in good category. The writer concludes that instructional model “cooperative learning STAD” can minimize students’ errors in writing application letter at eleventh grade of Natural Science Program 1 at MAN Negara academic year 2011/2012.
