- The problems of this research are: What media are used in teaching reading at the eighth grade students of MTs Darul Istiqamah Boarding school for boys Barabai in Academic year 2014/2015?And how does the teacher use the media in teaching reading? The subject of this reseach is English teacher. This consisted of 1teacherof class VIII in academic year 2014/2015. Meanwhile, the object of this research is the media which were used by the teacher in teaching readingatEighth Grade Students of Mts Darul Istiqamah Boarding School for Boys Barabai South Kalimantan Academic Year 2014/2015. The data are collected through interview, questionnaire and documentation (English teacher of MTs Darul Istiqamah) and observation (observation done when the teacher and students practice teaching and learning reading). By this observation, the writer tries to find the use of media that is used by the teacher in teaching reading for the students. The result of this research found some media that are used by the teacher in teaching reading at MTs Darul Istiqamah Barabai Hulu Sungai Tengah regency academic year 2014/2015. Students who were at Eighth grade need variation in teaching namely media. There are some dominant media used by the teacher in teaching reading such as using magazines, using newspaper and pictures, then the teacher used the mediais well dependson the topic.
