Andi Irlina, M. Hum. The research describes the ability of students of the second grade of MAN 3 Haruai Tabalong academic year 2009/2010 in pronouncing vowel sounds in English words. The formulation of problems in this research is: How is the students’ ability in pronouncing vowel sounds at the second grade of Man 3 Haruai Tabalong academic year 2009/2010. The population of the research is the second grade of MAN 3 Haruai Tabalong academic year 2009/2010. They are 70 students, and the sample of this research are 17 students. The object of the research is the students’ ability in pronouncing vowel sounds at the second grade of MAN 3 Haruai Tabalong academic year 2009/2010. The data of the research is collected through: test, observation, interview, documentary and recording. All of the collected data then processed through editing, coding, tabulating, and data interpretation. Then, the data is analyzed by using descriptive quantitative and qualitative and conclude by inductive method. The result of the research indicates that the students’ ability in pronouncing vowel sounds at the second grade of MAN 3 Haruai Tabalong academic year 2009/2010 is in fair category with mean score is 53,75. This research also found out the most factors that influence the ability of students in pronouncing vowel sounds of English word. They are: students’ native language, teacher factors, and language different which help them in pronouncing ability.
