The problems answered in this research are: What are the techniques that English teachers of second grade students of SMPN 2 KINTAP use in teaching vocabulary? And, Do the techniques used by english teacher of second grade students of SMPN 2 improve their vocabulary achievement? Based on the statement of problem above, this study is supposed to know the English teachers’ teaching techniques vocabulary and the influence of teachers’ teaching technique to the students’ vocabulary achievement. The research includes subject and object. The subjects of the research are two English teachers of the second grade at SMPN 2 Kintap in academic year 2010/2011 and second grade students of SMPN 2 Kintap. The object of the research are teachers’ techniques in teaching vocabulary for the second grade students of SMPN 2 KINTAP and students’ improvement in vocabulary achievement. The data collection techniques used were observation, test, interview and documentary to collect all data. Data processing in this research is divided into five stages; they are editing, coding, frequency computation, tabulating and data interpretation. Then all data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively and using inductive method to make conclusion. The result of the research denoted that the techniques used by the first teacher are 13 kinds and the techniques used by the second teacher are 7 kinds. The first teacher’s teaching technique can improve students’ vocabulary achievement of the second grade student class A of SMPN 2 Kintap. And the second teacher’s teaching technique also can improve students’ vocabulary achievement of the second grade student class B of SMPN 2 Kintap.
