Ed, advisor II: Rusnadi, S.Pd.I This research describes about the ability of students in changing active voice into passive voice of the fifth semester of English Department at Tarbiyah Faculty Antasari State Institute for Islamic Studies Banjarmasin Academic Year 2008/2009. Some reasons why the writer choose this title in this research, such as active and passive voice is two the important components of grammar for someone to be successful in four language skills, especially to improve speaking and writing skills. The students in the fifth semester have more understood about grammar than the first semester until the fourth semester.The statement of the problem in this research; how is the students’ ability in changing active voice into passive voice of the fifth semester students of English Department Tarbiyah Faculty Antasari State Institute for Islamic Studies Banjarmasin Academic Year 2008/2009. The purposes of this research is to know the students’ ability in changing active voice into passive voice at the fifth semester students of English Department Tarbiyah Faculty Antasari State Institute for Islamic Studies Banjarmasin Academic Year 2008/2009 The population of this research is 70 students of the fifth semester of English Department at Tarbiyah Faculty Antasari State Institute for Islamic Studies Banjarmasin Academic Year 2008/2009, and then the population are taken as the sample of this research at about 60% or about 42 students randomly. The object in this study is the ability of students in changing active voice into passive voice of English Department at Tarbiyah Faculty Antasari State Institute for Islamic Studies Banjarmasin Academic Year 2008/2009. The data in this research are collected through written test, interview, and documentary. After that, the data are processed through editing, coding, tabulating, and interpreting. Those data are then analyzed by using descriptive qualitative analysis technique and concluded inductively. The result of this research indicates that the degree of the students’ ability in changing active voice into passive voice of English Department at Tarbiyah Faculty Antasari State Institute for Islamic Studies Banjarmasin Academic Year 2008/2009., especially students in the fifth semester and who have taken structures A, B, and C course is classified in Very Good category, it can be seen that there are 15 students or 37, 5% in this category.
