An Analysis of English Department Students' Attitude toward Extensive Reading

- This research aims to find out the English Department students’ attitude toward Extensive Reading using research procedure of Miles & Huberman. This research conduct analyzing attitude of learning by applying Mathewson ABC’s theory. The population of this research is 162 English Department students of UIN Antasari Banjarmasin. The sample of this research is 10% of the population, in which 16 samples chosen randomly. Then, all of the data that have been collected were analyzed descriptive qualitatively. The results of this research indicated English Department students’ attitude toward Extensive Reading is positive reflected through Affective, Behavioural, and Cognitive aspects. The analysis also found Extensive Reading had a positive impact on students so that their attitude became positive as well. Based on the result of the research, the researcher recommended English learners that do not have any interest on Reading should find another method in order to take Reading as interesting activity due to its importance.
