- To evaluate prevalence, medical characteristic alterations, maternal dan perinatal outcomes in teenage pregnancies at Immanuel Hospital Bandung during the period of January 1st 2001 to December 31st 2005. A retrospective study of 265 teenage pregnancies at Obstetric and Gynecology Department Immanuel Hospital Bandung was performed during the period of 2001 to 2005 During the period of January 1st 2001 to December 31st 2005, 265 teenage pregnancies were identified among 5888 deliveries or abortions. The prevalence of teenage pregnancies was 4.5%. Overall antenatal visits in 24.35% cases were poor (less than 3 times). Unmarried teenagers were found in 16.23% cases and this condition was found to correlate with a higher incidence of septic abortions (20.83%), preeclampsia, and operative deliveries (51,30%). Caesarean deliveries with indications of Cephalo Pelvic Disproportion were found mainly in the teenage pregnancies (22,92%), Case Fatality Ratio was found as high as 3,17%. Small for gestational age babies were found in 17,62% cases. APGAR scores with asphyxia findings were found in 17,62% cases, and Intra Uterine Fetal Death were found in 8,81% cases. These findings were significantly higher compared to the prevalence of complicated deliveries and perinatal poor outcomes found in the optimal age of pregnancy. The prevalence of teenage pregnancies at Immanuel Hospital Bandung during 2001 to 2005 was found to have an increasing tendency. The prevalence of complicated pregnancies and perinatal poor outcomes were significantly higher compared to those in the optimal age of pregnancy. Thus, teenage pregnancy was shown to be an important factor in determining the risks of complicated deliveries.
