- ABSTRACTThe study on the role of farmer groups in order to improve knowledge of guava farmers had been conducted on December 2017 in Makmur Farmer Group in Pagerruyung, Kendal. The location was determined by the fact that Makmur farmer group has the largest number of guava production in Pagerruyung. This study aims were to analyze the role of the farmer group in the knowledge level of the farmers and to analyze the knowledge level of the farmers of planting guava. The result of this analysis implies that the roles of farmer group as a learning activities, production unit, and business unit simultaneously influence the knowledge level of the farmers. From the partial research result, it found that the business unit, as the direct variable, significantly influences the knowledge level of the farmers. The roles of the farmer group as a learning media, cooperation media, and production unit partially have indirect and no significant influence towards the knowledge of the farmers. Key words : role of group, knowledge, farmer group, guava ABSTRAKPenelitian tentang peran kelompok tani terhadap tingkat pengetahuan petani telah dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2017 di Kelompok Tani Makmur Kecamatan Pagerruyung, Kabupaten Kendal. Penentuan lokasi dilakukan dengan pertimbangan bahwa kelompok tani Makmur memiliki jumlah petani dan jumlah produksi jambu biji getas merah terbanyak di Kecamatan Pagerruyung. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu menganalisis peran kelompok terhadap tingkat pengetahuan petani dan menganalisis tingkat pengetahuan petani dalam bertani jambu biji getas merah. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa peran kelompok sebagai media belajar, media kerjasama, unit produksi, dan unit usaha berpengaruh secara serempak terhadap tingkat pengetahuan petani. Hasil uji secara parsial menunjukkan jika variabel yang langsung berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap tingkat pengetahuan petani yaitu unit usaha. Peran kelompok sebagai media belajar, media kerjasama, dan unit produksi secara parsial tidak berpengaruh langsung dan tidak signifikan terhadap pengetahuan petani. Kata kunci : peran kelompok, pengetahuan, kelompok tani, jambu
