  • Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) are a type of tuber that is widely used as a source of carbohydrates or staple food for Indonesians after corn and rice. In the process of cultivating potatoes in the highlands, there are still obstacles, namely low sun intensity. Modifying the environment by using mulch can optimize the intensity of sunlight received by the potatoes. Plastic mulch has the ability to maintain a balance of light hitting the mulch surface. Light hitting the surface of the mulch can be passed on, absorbed and reflected back. The light reflected by the surface of the plastic mulch will hit the plant parts above it, so that the reflected light can be absorbed by the leaves for photosynthesis. This research was conducted from June to September 2019 in Puncak Brakseng Hamlet, Sumber Brantas Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City. The research location is at an altitude of 1303 masl. The variety used was the Mc cultivar. Russet. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with 7 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments used were: A1: no mulch (control), A2: Black plastic mulch, A3: 140 lux silver black plastic mulch, A4: 124 lux silver black plastic mulch, A5: 117 lux silver black plastic mulch, A6: Plastic mulch silver and A7: Straw mulch. The observational variables in this study were divided into 4 main parts, namely (1) Growth variables by observing leaf area (cm2), plant growth rate (g), plant dry weight (g), number of plant leaves and chlorophyll content (2) Parameters of yield components. by observing the fresh weight of planting tubers (g), the number of tubers planted (g), the weight of the harvested tubers, (3) observing the efficiency of solar energy conversion and (4) observing reflected light (albedo). The data obtained were then analyzed using analysis of variance (F test) with a level of 5% aimed to determine whether the effect of the treatment was significant. If there is a real difference, then it is done by using the BNJ test with a level of 5%. The results showed that plant growth patterns were relatively the same in the observation parameters of leaf area, leaf number and plant growth rate, where silver plastic mulch (MPP) treatment produced higher values than other treatments, followed by treatment of the three silver black plastic mulch (MPHP 140). Lux, MPHP 124 Lux, and MPHP 117 Lux), straw mulch treatment, black plastic mulch (MPH) treatment and control treatment. In the observation of yield components, silver plastic mulch (MPP) treatment gave the highest yield of fresh weight yields of plant tubers, namely 351.25 g tan-1 and also the fresh weight of harvested tubers, namely 2.10 kg m-2. The three black silver plastic mulch (MPHP 140 Lux, MPHP 124 Lux and MPHP 117 Lux) gave relatively the same results on the fresh weight yield of plant tubers, namely 275 - 281 g tan-1, as well as the fresh weight of harvested tubers which was 1, 65 - 1.69 kg m-2. The control treatment has the lowest value of all treatments. In terms of EKE and albedo values, silver plastic mulch gave the highest results of all treatments. So overall silver plastic mulch was able to increase growth and yield the highest compared to all treatments on potato plants
