  • This research was conducted using in vivo method in Pasuruan district, from January until April 2014. Feed nutrient analysis was done in Feed and Nutrition Laboratory, Animal Husbandry Faculty, Brawijaya University. The protozoa population count was done in Epidemiology Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Brawijaya University. The purpose of this research was to find the best combination of using cassava based diet on the protozoa population count in fat-tailed sheep rumen. The materials used on this research were 24 fat-tailed sheep weighed 16-24 Kg . The method used on this research was experiment average in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four treatments and six replications, namely P1 (40% of cassava peel silage + 20% of cassava meal + 40% of cassava leaf meal) , P2 (40% of cassava peel silage + 25% of cassava meal + 35% of cassava leaf meal), P3 (40% of cassava peel silage + 30% of cassava meal + 30% of cassava leaf meal) and P4 (40% of cassava peel silage + 35% of cassava meal + 25% of cassava leaf meal). Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and the analysis was continued by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) if it was found significant effect among treatmeants. The results showed that the treatments had no significant effects (P>0.05) on dry matter intake, organic matter intake and rumens protozoa population and the treatments had significant effects (P<0.01) on crude fiber intake, protein fiber intake and v Nitrogen-Free Extracted (NFE) intake. The best results for dry matter (59.17±2.94), organic matter (53.69±2.67) and Nitrogen-Free Extracted (NFE) intakes (37.69±0.16), while the best results for crude protein (7.07±0.14) and crude fiber intake (6.64±0.13). It was conclusion that the best rumens protozoa population was (5.16 x 104 organism/ml).
