- This study aims to determine how the effects of the addition of the antioxidant quercetin found in onion (Allium cepa L) in preventing the formation of free radicals in semen Etawah Crossbreed (PE) goat are frozen. Reactive oxygen free radical species (ROS) can resistor so that the sperm cell membrane integrity can be maintained goat. This research method using a completely randomized design with a pattern of nested. Treatment is given on the plus diluent andromed onion extract with concentration 0,1,2, and 3%. treatment done 16 times and the repetition was observed 2 times the equilibration time and time post thawing. The variables measured include the test macroscopic (color, pH, volume) and microscopic test (sperm concentration, sperm motility, percentage of live spermatozoa and sperm cell membrane integrity). During the freezing process of membrane integrity damaged by cold shock and free radicals that damage the membrane lipid bilayer. The results of observations show that the percentage of 2% red onion extract is the best concentration and a significantly (P< 0.05) in maintaining cell membrane integrity of spermatozoa goat of 73.29 ± 1.31%, viability 68.12 ± 5.73% and motility was 48.75 ± 4.28%. The conclusion of this study is the onion extract in diluent AndroMed® can maintain motility, viability, and cell membrane integrity of spermatozoa from damage caused by free radicals, reactive oxigenspecies (ROS) during frozen storage..
