Kualitas Semen Kambing Peranakan Etawah (Pe) Dalam Pengencer Andromed® Dengan Penambahan Ekstrak Bawang Merah (Allium Cepa L.) Selama Penyimpanan Suhu Dingin

  • The research was to know sperm quality of Crossbred Etawah within AndroMed® diluents with additional red onion extract (Allium cepa L.) in cold storage. Material which used in this research was male Crossbred Etawah semen in 2 years by age with 50-60 kg on weight. Semen was being diluented with AndroMed®, then with additional red onion extract 0%, 1%, 2%, 3% in amount, and put in storage within 4-50C temperature for 1-3 hours. Semen being evaluated into motility, viability, and abnormality in every 1 hour. The research method was a trial research. Program pattern which used in this research was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) nested pattern and 16 replication, if there was a difference, then research should be continued to Duncan Multiple Range test and LSD test. The result showed that increased level of red onion extract was 2 %, gave a significant effect (P<0,05) on semen quality. Motility value was 63,75 ± 5.62% in the first hour, 56.25 ± 5.62% in the second hour, and 50.00% ± 7.30 in the thirth hour. Viability value was 91.11 ± 2.85% in the first hour, 80.07 ± 4.64% in the second hour, and 76.96 ± 5.28% in the thirth hour. The conclusion was, 2% of increasing level for red onion extract gave a significant effect (P<0,05) and could maintain Crossbred Etawah semen quality during storage process in cold temperature. Need further research about the type and characteristics of the antioxidants in sperm, that can determined the characteristics antioxidants by sperm.
