  • Asthma is chronic respiratory disease that often found in animals and humans. The asthma symptoms could be more severe by endotoxin at mouth cavity due to exposure of Gram-negative bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The Mimosa pudica Linn. leaf extract to asthma therapy caused by Lipopolisaccharide has not been repoterted. This research was to sudy the potential of Mimosa pudica Linn. leaf extract that could affect to protease activity and bronchi epithelial histopathology appearance on asthma rats. Four group of rats (Rattus norvegicus) were used in this research were control group, athma group, and and two groups with therapy of Mimosa pudica Linn. extract dose of 500 mg/Kg BW and 1000 mg/Kg BW. Asthma rats were prepared by sensitization of allergent conducted by intraperitonial injection and nebulized of Ovalbumin (OVA), also intrasulcular injection of Lipopolysaccharide from Phorphyromonas gingivalis. The activity of protease determined using spectophotometry and masured according to Walter (1984), then analyzed by ANOVA. The histopatological observations of bronchi epithelial using hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining and observed microscopicaly. The results showed that Mimosa pudica Linn. leaf extract therapy with both dose of 500 mg/Kg BW and 1000 mg/Kg BW significantly (P<0.05) decreased protease activity and repaired bronchi epithelial damage in asthma rats. It can be concluded that the higher dose of Mimosa pudica Linn. therapy, decrease protease activity and repairing of histopatological appearance of bronchi epithelial.
