  • This study examines Ukraine’s energy security strategy after the Crimean crisis that happened in 2014. Ukraine has a high intensity of energy, thus affecting the national economy. So that energy security is able to affect the security of the Ukrainian economy. In addition, Ukraine also has a very high dependence on imports of natural gas from Russia. In 2012 Ukraine's gas imports from Russia still reach 100%. In 2014, the Crimea conducted a referendum, of which 95% of Crimean people want to join Russia, but it caused the stretching of Ukraine’s relations with Russia. From the gas-energy between the two nations to the conflicts that happened in Donestk and Luhansk, Ukraine could not depend on Russia constantly, therefore, Ukraine began to integrate with the EU. it certainly required a new strategy to secure Ukraine's energy supply. In this study, the author will describe what efforts were made by using the concept of Ukrainian energy security strategy by Mason Willrich. According to Willrich, Ukraine's strategy as the importing country can be seen from three aspects, to reduce losses in the event of a disruption, reduce dependence on supplies from other countries, and strengthen security against energy supply from other countries. This study aims to describe and explain what actions and strategies designed by Ukraine to maintain security in the face of energy dependence in foreign import from Rusia using the concept of energy security strategy by Mason Willrich.
