This research was aimed at analyzing the bottom line of the population and the attact of A. gossypii as a plant disease and a viral vector of pepper plant (Capsicum annum L.). The population and the percentage of the attack of A. gossypii at chili farm in the highland (Pagar Alam) and the lowland (Soak Palembang) for a period of one planting season fluctuates in number. This research was conducted during the period of July 2009 and July 2010. The peak of the population of A. gossypii occurs when the chili reached the age of 18 weeks, which was 35.10 &#xB1; 118.65 (insects/25 m2) in the highland and 79.53 &#xB1; 160.31 (insects/25 m2) in the lowland. The results of 10 times observations showed that the average number of A. gossypii in the lowland was generally higher than that of the average number of A. gossypii in the highland. The peak of the attack of A. gossypii occurs when the chili reached the age of 10 weeks old, which was 0.27 &#xB1; 1.84 % (insects/25 m2) in the highland and when the chili reached the age of 2 weeks old, which was 1.67 &#xB1; 32.71 % (insects/25 m2) in the lowland. The results of 10 times observations showed that the percentage of the A. gossypii attacked on chilli plants of 2 weeks up to 8 weeks old was higher in the lowland than that of the highland. However, when the chili reached the age of 10 weeks old, the percentage of the attack of A.gossypii was generally higher in the highland than that of the lowland. The attack of A. gossypii in the highland and the lowland tends to occur on the leaves and the shoots of the chili plants which were still young or when the age of the plants was under 10 weeks old.
