  • The purpose of the research was to identify fruit plants as hosts of fruit flies in different elevation area in South Sumatera. The observation was conducted from July to September 2008, and survey method by purposive sampling was used to take sample. The target plants were fruit trees. Observations of fruit flies were done by two ways: 1) setting traps (attractant methyl eugenol and cue lure) and 2) rearing of fruit affected. The results of fruit flies identification showed that there were 5 species, i.e. Bactrocera carambolae, B. papaya, B. occipitalis, B. albistrigata and B. fiscitibia. All five species were found emerged from rearing of the infected fruit. Methyl eugenol traps were trapped three species (Bactrocera carambolae, B. papaya, B. occipitalis), while cue lure attractant trapped the two species (B. albistrigata and B. fiscitibia). All species of fruit flies were found in lowland areas (<100 m asl) while moderate land (400-600 m asl) was found B. carambola and B. albistrigatta only, while in highland (750-1300 m asl) was found B. carambolae, B. papaya, B. occipitalis, but could not find species of B. fistibia. B. carambolae was a polyphagous fruit flies since it attacked many kinds of fruits
