  • A Method to determine sample size to estimate reliable characteristic value of soil parameters are proposed. It is based on the random filed theory and aim is to estimate a local average (LA) of the soil parameters. Concept of condition adn non-conditional estimatoin is introduced where the former is to estimate LA at the location where the observations are made, and the latter is a obtain LA at arbitrary locations within the same layer. It is emphasized that the required number of samples are quite different in these two situations.
