- factitious host of the egg parasitoid, Trichogramma spp. It is available in rice or corn meal, easy, and cheap to mass produce using locally available grain stored. A combination of corn meal and chicken feed (1:1 ratio) can be used in mass rearing of Corcyra. Wild egg parasitoid collected from parasitized pest egg in the field can be reared on the Corcyra eggs in the laboratory. One parasitoid to 15 Corcyra eggs is ideal ratio for parasitization. The egg parasitoid is considered a useful biocontrol agent againts vegetable pests. Trichogramma chilonis and Trichogrammatoidea armigera have been identified as candidate for biological control agents of a tomato fruitworm, Helicoverpa armigera on tomato. The naturally occuring biocontrol agent attacking a diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella on cabbage was Trichogramma cojuangcoi. Telenomus spodopterae has recently developed as a biocontrol agent for Spodoptera exigua on onion.
