- This research was conducted to determine aphid (Aphis gossypii Glover) population and to estimate ladybird-beetle abundance on red chili and hot chili in Inderalaya, South Sumatra. The research was done on a research field with samples consisting 100 plants each species of chili. The observation was conducted every week, and started on 7 day after planting (dap) up to 84 dap. The aphid population on red chili tended to have higher population than these on hot chili. The highest population of the aphid was found on 42-day-old red chili (241 aphids/100 plants) and also 42-day-old hot chili (360 aphids/100 plants). The aphid could not be found on the chili if it rained a day before observation. The ladybird-beetles found on both species of chili were Anisolemnia dilatata Fabr., Coccinella transversalis Fabr., and Coccinella octomaculata Fabr. Abundance of the ladybird-beetles were higher on red chili (3.50/200 plants) than those of beetles on hot chili (2.92 beetles/200 plants).
