  • This study intended to investigate (1) the three strategies (global readingstrategies, problem-solving reading strategies, and support reading strategies)mostly applied by the students when they were reading, and (2) the correlationbetween reading strategies and reading comprehension achievement of the sixthsemester students of English Education Study Program, Sriwijaya University. Todo so, a correlational research design was used for the study. The data wereanalyzed with Pearson-product moment correlation using Statistical Package forSocial Science (SPSS) version 21.0. The population of this study was 92 sixthsemester students of English Education Study Program, Sriwijaya University. Tocollect the data and measure students‘ reading strategies and their readingcomprehension achievement, a reading strategies questionnaire and readingcomprehension test were given. The findings revealed that 33 students or 35.9%of the students belong to Global Reading Strategies category. Then 36 students or39.1% of the students belong to Problem-Solving Reading Strategies category andonly 23 students or 25% students belong to Support Reading Strategies category.It can be concluded that Problem-Solving Reading Strategies mostly applied bythe students. Moreover, the correlation analysis showed that there was a fairsignificant correlation between the sixth semester students‘ reading strategies andtheir reading comprehension achievement of English Education Study Program,Sriwijaya University in which r-obtained (0.626) was greater than r-table (0.267)and the p value (0.000) was less than (0.05)
