- The objectives of this study were to find out : (1) whether or not there was any significant improvement in reading comprehension achievement of the 8th grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya after they were taught by using RT strategy, (2) whether or not there was any significant improvement in each aspect of reading comprehension achievement of the 8th grade students of SMP 1 Indralaya after they were taught by using RT strategy, (3) whether or not there was any significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the students who were not taught by using RT strategy. The sample of this study was 64 8th grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya , which were divided into control and experimental groups, and each groups had 32 students. To collect the data, each group was given pre-test and post-test. The data was analyzed by using paired sample and independent sample t-test. The result showed : (1) there was a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension achievement of experimental group after they were taught by using RT (mean difference=11.219; p-value=.000), (2) there was a significant improvement in the mean scores of each aspect of students’ reading comprehension test in the experimental group.
