  • This study was aimed to find out whether or not the use ofBig Book could improve students’ writing achievement. Apre-experimental study, one group pre-test and post-test, wasused as a design in this study. The population of this studywas only one class of the eleventh grade students of SeniorHigh School Number 10 Palembang in the academic year2012/2013. The population was also the sample of the study,the science eleventh one class, consisting of 40 students. Thisgroup of students was given treatment for 22 meetings. Thewriting test was used to collect the data. After the thestudents were given the treatment, the mean of post –test washigher than pre-test.The result of the study showed that therewas a significant mean difference between pre-test and posttest (26.64, p value = 0.000) of the result of pre test and posttest. It means that there was an improvement in students’writing achievement after they were taught by using BigBook. So, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected andalternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. In conclusion, BigBook could improve narrative writing achievement of thestudents.
