The Effect of Inside Outside Circle Strategy Toward Students' Speaking Ability in Recount text at Grade VIII of Islamic Junior High School 8 Padang Pariaman

- Speaking is the ablity to express oneself in real situations, or the ability to converse or to express a sequence of ideas fluently. Based on the facts that most students at class VIII of Islamic Junior High School 8 Padang Pariaman had some problems in speaking. The problems they face in speaking was caused by some factors, factors came from themselves and strategy that used by English teacher. In this study, the researcher offered Inside Outside Circle strategy to overcome students’ problems. Through this strategy, students can improve their speaking ability and solve problems in components of speaking ability like pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The purpose of this research was to find out Inside Outside Circle strategy the significant effect of towards students’ speaking ability at eight grade Islamic Junior High School 8 Padang Pariaman and what components of speaking ability can be improved by using Inside Outside Circle strategy. This was pre-experimental research. One group pre-test post-test design was used in this research. There were 127 students at grade VIII Islamic Junior High School 8 Padang Pariaman at 2017/2018 academic year as the population of this research. By using Cluster Sampling Technique, the researcher took grade VIII-1 as the sample (experimental class) that consist of 43 students. To collectthe data, pretest was given before giving treatment by using Inside Outside Circle strategy in five meetings, the post-test was given after doing treatments in this research. The result of this research showed that Inside Outside Circle strategy students’ speaking ability was improved. It could be seen from more students’ speaking in posttest was 74.09 higher than the mean score students’ speaking pre-test was 55.32. while, t-obtained was 3.63 also higher than t-table was 2.374. it means that the hyphotesis was accepted. The significant component that could be improved by using were pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. It can be concluded that Inside Outside Circle strategy give significant effect toward students’ speaking ability at grade VIII-1 of Islamic Junior High School 8 Padang Pariaman. It is recomended that the English teacher should consider using Inside Outside Circle as a strategy in teaching speaking. Then, for other researcher, it is suggested to carry out further studies about the use of Inside Outside Circle Strategy to improve students’ speaking ability.
