State University of Gorontalo. The principal supervisor was Dr. Suleman Bouti, S.Pd, M. Hum, and The co-supervisor was Rosma Kadir, S.Pd, M.A. This research anlyzed the social phenomenon portrayed in the poem of Maya Angelou Caged Bird and Still I Rise. particularly the reflection racial discrimination. Based on the data (words in poems) the writer found that there is racial discrimination reflected in these poems. Genetic structural analysis is use in analysing the text of the poems. This research use qualitative method. Pre reading and close reading analysis also use in analyzing the poems. In supporting the data, this research use historical approach. Sources of data in this research is two poems of Maya Angelou (Caged Bird and Still I Rise). Meanwhile, sources such as text book, journal, internet document, literary work, article and biography which included in library research also used as the secondary data. Key words: Racial, Discrimination, Caged, Rise, Poem.
