- Abstract Traditional expressions of Jambi Malay - seloko adat, proverbs, sayings and folklore, are passed down from one generation to another. The expressions vary in form, diction and act. This research is aimed at describing the forms and meanings of euphemism in traditional expressions of Jambi Malay. This reasearch applies descriptive-qualitatve method. There are two kinds of data in this research. Verbal data are gathered through conversation and written data through note-taking. The data, then, are analized with match-method i.e. comparing extra-lingual elements using Element Selection Technique as the basic technique and Comparative-Corresponding Technique as the further technique. The result of the research shows that euphemism in traditional expression of Jambi Malay are semantical in the forms of words, phrases and clauses. Meanings of euphemism in traditional expression of Jambi Malay are bound to occasions and events such as adat, religion, government and individual relation in the society. Besides, they convey moral values such as honesty, good manners, braveness, examplary, health, consanguinity and sincierity. Key word: eufemisme, ungkapan tradisional
