  • Background - Diabetes Mellitus (DM) or abbreviated Diabetes is a health disorder in the form of a collection of symptoms caused by an increase in blood sugar levels (Glucose) of the blood due to lack or insulin retention. The trend of increasing prevalence will bring changes in DM position that are increasingly prominent, which is marked by changes or increases in rank among the top 10 diseases (Leading Diseases). In addition, DM also provides a greater contribution to mortality (ten diseases leading cause of diseases) (Bustan, 2007). Objective - To Identify Family Nursing Care with a Focus on the Study of Lack of Knowledge About the Diabetes Mellitus Diet in Assisted Citizens at the Class I Correctional Institution of Semarang. The method - the research method used in compiling this Scientific Writing is descriptive which is defined as a study conducted to describe or describe a phenomenon that occurs in society. Descriptive surveys are used to describe or photograph health problems as well as those related to the health of a group of residents or people living in a particular community (Notoatmodjo, 2012). This Scientific Writing describes family nursing care with a focus on the study of the lack of knowledge about the diabetes mellitus diet in the assisted clients of the first class prison in Semarang. Knowledge of understanding, causes, symptoms, diet management, complications of diabetes Results - showed an increase in knowledge about the diabetes mellitus diet for each client. This is evidenced from the results of the level of knowledge both indicate a change in consumption patterns regarding the diet of diabetes mellitus, namely the client has reduced consumption of foods containing sugar and can apply dietary compliance every day. This result is also supported by a decrease in blood sugar levels in Mr. E of 256 mg / dl, becomes 223 mg / dl and Mr. A from 276 mg / dl, to 249 mg / dl.
