- This book seeks to address that lack by introducing important articles by Korean scholars on education in the private academies (sowon), the goverment service examinations (kwago), the bureacratic system, and the compilation of official history in the veritable record (sillok). The hope here is to shed light on what is typically referred to as the tradition of civil rule, but might be more accurately rendered in English as a tradition of cultured rule.
