- The assumption that performance appraisal represents employer's career success has been refused by Schein (1985), who proposed to integrate the employer's aspiration and individual needs and the management's need as a good career development plan. The author is keen on testing this theory at a corporate level based on 2 criteria: internal and external criteria approaches. Samples (N=50) are agents of a life insurance company. Data analysis with SPSS version 7.5 reveals that: (a) the dominant aspect of the agents's career orientation is the service career orientation (50 % of all respondents); (b) there is a positive correlation between service career orientation with the agent's career success (r= .848 and p= .000); (c) there is a positive correlation between career constraint with the agent's career succes ( r=.675 and p= .000); (d) there is a negative influence of the service career orientation and career constraint on the agent's career succes (Beta= -1.356, F= 54.185 and p= .000); (e) there is a negative correlation between the agent's career succes with the external career succes or performance apraisal ( r= -. 619 and p= .000). It seems that the internal career constraint can trigger the agent's work life positively and the service career orientation takes part in the agent's work life positively and the service career orientation takes part in the agent's career choice.
