- AbstractâInjection of the wind power into an electricgrid affects the power quality. The Performance of the windturbine and thereby pOwer quality are determined on thebasis of measurements and the norms followed accordingto the guideline specified in International Electro-technicalCommission standard, IEC-61400. The influence of thewind turbine in the grid system concerning the power qualitymeasurements are-the active power, reactive power, variationof voltage, flicker, harmonics, and electrical behavior ofswitching operation and these are measured according tonational/international guidelines. The paper studydemonstrates the power quality problem due toinstallation of wind turbine with the grid. In this proposedscheme STATIC Compensator (STATCOM) is connected ata point of common coupling with a battery energy storagesystem (BESS) to mitigate the power quality issues. Thebattery energy storage is integrated to sustain the real powersource under fluctuating wind power. The STATCOMcontrol scheme for the grid connected wind energygeneration system for power quality improvement issimulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK in power systemblock set. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme relivesthe main supply source from the reactive power demand of theload and the induction generator. The development of thegrid co-ordination rule and the scheme for improvement inpower quality norms as per IEC-standard on the grid hasbeen presented.Index TermsâInternational electro-technical commission (IEC),power quality, wind generating system (WGS).
