  • The objectives of this research were to find out the difference between male and female students’ vocabulary learning strategies and to find out the correlation between students’ vocabulary learning strategies toward their vocabulary size. The subjects were 100 students of the first grade in SMAN 1 Natar and it consists of 50 male students and 50 female students. Vocabulary learning strategy questionnaires and vocabulary size test were used to collect the data. This study employed Independent Sample T-test. The result showed that there was a significant difference between male and female students’ vocabulary learning strategies since p<0.05 (p=0.049). It happened because both of the students used different strategy for improving their vocabulary size. This study also found out that there was a significant correlation between male students’ vocabulary learning strategies toward their vocabulary size with the significant level 0.490**. On the other hand, the result of female students’ vocabulary learning strategies was contrast with male students. The result showed that there was no significant correlation between male students’ vocabulary learning strategy toward their vocabulary size. It can be concluded that learning strategy was not the one and only factors in improving students’ vocabulary size. It could be affected by other factors, such as students’ motivation and background knowledge.
