  • Indonesia merupakan negara terbesar menghasilkan minyak kelapa sawit dengan hasil samping berupa limbah dari industri kelapa sawit yaitu Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit (TKKS). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh torefaksi, kuantitas pelet, kecepatan putar serta interaksi antara 2 faktor setelah torefaksi terhadap karakteristik dan kandungan pada pelet. Hasil penelitian diperoleh karakteristik dan kandungan pelet setelah ditorefaksi sebagai berikut: kadar air 0,74 – 2,96 %, kadar abu 9,49- 22,59 %, kadar volatile matter 77,40 – 90,50 %, nilai kalor 16,29 -18,52 Mj, hemiselulosa 23-24%, selulosa 30 – 34%, lignin 33-41%, bulk density 0,45-0,61 (gr/cm3), massa density 0,70 -3,51%, rendemen 81,5-86,6 %. Jumlah pelet berpengaruh terhadap kadar air, kadar abu, kadar volatile matter, bulk density dan rendemen. Kecepatan putaran tabung torefaksi berpengaruh terhadap hidrophobicity, bulk density dan rendemen. Interaksi antara 2 faktor berpengaruh pada kadar air, bulk density dan rendemen sedangkan parameter yang lain seperti kadar abu, kadar volatile matter dan massa density tidak berpengaruh. Kata Kunci: Limbah kelapa sawit, TKKS, torefaksi, pelet. Indonesia is the largest country producing palm oil with by-products in the form of waste from the palm oil industry is Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (TKKS). This study aims to determine the effect of torefaction, pellet quantity, rotational speed and interaction between 2 factors after torefaction on the characteristics and content of pellets. The results obtained by the characteristics and content of the pellet after being modified as follows: water content 0.74-2.96%, ash content 9.49-22.59%, volatile matter content 77.40 - 90.50%, calorific value 16, 29 -18.52 Mj, hemicellulose 23-24%, cellulose 30-34%, lignin 33-41%, bulk density 0.45- 0.61 (gr / cm3), mass density 0.70 -3.51% , yield 81.5-86.6%. The number of pellets affects the water content, ash content, volatile matter levels, bulk density and yield. Torefaction tube rotation speed affects hydrophobicity, bulk density and yield. The interaction between the 2 factors influences water content, bulk density and yield while other parameters such as ash content, volatile matter levels and mass density have no effect.
