  • Penyakit diabetes sering terjadi akibat adanya gangguan kerja pankreas dalam mensekresi hormon insulin. Penyakit tersebut dapat menyebabkan penurunan imun tubuh dan komplikasi berbagai organ vital seperti ginjal. Daun jeruju (Acanthus ilicifolius L.) dan taurin dilaporkan memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang berpotensi sebagai agen antidiabetes. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh daun jeruju dan taurin terhadap kadar glukosa darah, hematopoiesis serta kemampuan meregenerasi organ ginjal yang mengalami kerusakan akibat induksi aloksan. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 5 kelompok perlakuan dan masing-masing 5 ulangan. Kelompok K1 sebagai kontrol negatif (tidak diberikan perlakuan), kelompok K2 sebagai kontrol positif (hanya diinduksi aloksan), kelompok P1 diinduksi aloksan dan diberi ekstrak etanol 100% daun jeruju dosis 22,4 mg/bb/hari, kelompok P2 diinduksi aloksan dan diberi ekstrak etanol 50% daun jeruju dosis 22,4 mg/bb/hari, kelompok P3 diinduksi aloksan dan diberi taurin dosis 15,6 mg/bb/hari selama 14 hari. Data dianalisis dengan ANOVA dan uji lanjut LSD pada taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian bahan uji P1, P2, P3 secara signifikan mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa darah sebesar 69,39%, 67,06%, 73,77%, mampu memperbaiki kerusakan ginjal, serta mampu mempertahankan jumlah total leukosit dan jumlah sel limfosit mendekati normal. Pemberian bahan uji juga berpengaruh signifikan terhadap perubahan berat badan dan berat organ ginjal mencit, namun belum menunjukkan pengaruh terhadap indeks organ, jumlah total eritrosit, jumlah neutrofil, basofil, eosinofil maupun jumlah monosit mencit yang diinduksi aloksan. This disease can cause a decrease in body immunity and complications of various vital organs such as the kidneys. Jeruju (Acanthus ilicifolius L.) leaves and taurine are reported to have antioxidant activity that is potential as antidiabetic agent. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of jeruju leaves and taurine on blood glucose levels, hematopoiesis and the ability to regenerate kidney organs damaged by alloxan induction. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatment groups and 5 repetitions. Group K1 as negative control (not given treatment), group K2 as positive control (only induced by alloxan), group P1 induced by alloxan and given 100% ethanol extract of Jeruju leaves with dose of 22.4 mg/bw/day, group P2 induced by alloxan and given 50% ethanol extract of Jeruju leaves with dose of 22.4 mg/bw/day, group P3 induced by alloxan and given taurine with dose of 15.6 mg/bw/day for 14 days. Data were analyzed by ANOVA and LSD follow-up test at 5% level. The results showed that the administration of P1, P2, P3 test materials was significantly able to reduce blood glucose levels by 69.39%, 67.06%, 73.77%, able to repair kidney damage, and be able to maintain the total number of leukocytes and the number of lymphocyte cells close to normal. The administration of test materials also has significant effect on changes in body weight and kidney organ weight of mice, but has not shown any effect on organ index, total number of erythrocytes, neutrophils, basophils, eosinophils and the number of mices monocytes induced by alloxan.
