- The objectives of this research were to find out the increase of the students’ writing achievement of recount text after the students were taught by using picture series as the media in teaching writing; and to investigate which aspect of writing that improves the most and the least significant after the implementation of picture series in teaching writing recount text and also the problem in leaning while the implementation of picture series in teaching writing recount text. The research was conducted at the first grade students of SMA Negeri 10 Bandar Lampung in academic year 2019/2020 at the second semester. Class X Science 2 consisting of 36 students was chosen as the sample of this research. Pretest and posttest design was used in this research. Writing test was used as the instrument in pretest and posttest. The data were taken from the tests, observation sheets, and interview and then they were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-test. The results showed that the mean score of the pretest was 58.98 and the posttest was 70.34. It means that the students’ mean score improved 11.34. Moreover, the result of the t-value (17.200) was higher than t-table (2.030) and the value of two-tailed significance was 0.000 < 0.05. It indicates that the H0 is rejected or H1 is accepted, so that there is statistically significant increase on students’ writing achievement of recount text after the implementation of picture series in teaching writing recount text. The problems faced by the students were lack of vocabulary, confused with the use of tenses and the right diction. In addition, all aspects of writing improved regarding to the results, but content improved the most and mechanics improved the least. Based on the result, it can be concluded that teaching writing recount text through picture series is effective in increasing students’ writing achievement of recount text and all aspects of writing.
