  • Writing is the process of using symbols (letters of the alphabet, punctuation and spaces) to communicate thoughts and ideas in a readable form. Writing is a process of putting ideas down on paper to transform thoughts into words, to sharpen main ideas, and to give them structure and cohererent organization. Therefore the researcher should find systematic ways that can motivate the students to compose their writing in a proper way. This study is aimed at finding out whether there is a different increase of students’writing ability between students taught by using Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) and those were taught by using Mind Mapping. In addition, it is aimed at finding out whether there is different increase of students’ writing ability between extrovert and introvert students after being taught through STAD and Mind Mapping, and interaction between those two strategies and personality. The population of this research is the first grade students of MTsN 1 Pringsewu in academic year 2019/2020. The research was conducted to 25 students in the first experimental class and 25 students in second experimental class. To collect the data, a personality trait questionnaire and writing tests were administered. Then, the data were analyzed quantitatively. The result shows that there is a significant difference on students’s writing ability between students taught by using STAD and those taught by using Mind Mapping. The data reveals that sig. (2-tailed) was lower than 0.05 (0.000< 0.05). Furthermore, it is found that there is no significant difference of writing ability between extrovert and introvert students after being taught through STAD and Mind Mapping. The data shows that the sinificant level is higher than 0.05 (0.07>0.05). Last, there was no interaction between those two startegies and personality. The data shows that Fobserved is lower than Ftable (0.468<3.34). In accordance with those finding, it can been said that both STAD and Mind Mapping are effective to increase the students’ writing ability. The extrovert and introvert students are succesful in increasing their writing ability after learning with STAD and Mind Mapping.
