  • The objectives of this research were to find out whether there is any significant improvement on the students’ writing achievement of recount texts and to investigate the students’ most dominant errors based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy in terms of grammar after being taught through peer-correction technique. The current study, which involved 33 students of class X Science 4 of SMA N 1 Pringsewu, used one group pretest posttest design. The data were elicited through the pretest and posttest in forms of writing recount texts (the students’ bad and good experiences). The pretest and posttest mean scores were compared with the significant level of 0.05. The errors were also analyzed by using Surface Strategy Taxonomy to find the most dominant errors. The result showed that there was a statistically significant improvement of the students’ writing achievement. It can be seen from the result of the Paired-Sample T-Test where the significant value was lower than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). Moreover, the frequency of each type of error in grammar indicated that omission was the errors which most frequently produced by the students. It took 45.3% of the total error. It is important to note that peer-correction technique facilitated the students to improve their writing capability of recount texts. Hence, the technique could be implemented in the learning process. Furthermore, seeing the errors, the teacher should focus more on the students’ problem in terms of grammar. Thus, it might minimize the errors. Keywords: peer-correction technique, recount text, surface strategy taxonomy, writing capability
