  • The objective of this study was to explore the students’ perceptions of the use of picture series in learning speaking English. The study employed the qualitative method. The subjects of the study were 17 students of the third grade of SMA Muhammadiyah Pekalongan, Lampung Timur. The data were collected through interviews with respect to the five categories, i.e., levels of difficulty, degree of stress, confidence, students’ interest, and students’ motivation (Mahpul, (2014) adapted from Robinson, (2001)). Manual coding was used to analyze the data. The result of this study showed that majority of the students perceived that picture series had positive perceptions in the sense that students felt easy, relaxed, confidence, interest, and motivated while speaking English through picture series.
