In this research, synthesis, degradation , mechanical test and characterization of polyblend PLA and PCL were used as raw material for sutures. To reduce the stiffness, poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) as plasticizer was added. The synthesis method is carried out by solution casting followed by the formation of film sheets. The degradation test uses 0.9% NaCl solution and the mechanical test gives the best results on the ratio of PLA/PCL 4:1 composition which has a degradation percentage of 2.39% and a tensile strength value of 17.99 N/mm2 while PLA/PCL 4:1 with the addition of PVA plasticizer has a degradation percentage of 3.47% and tensile strength value of 14.63 N/mm2. FTIR characterization analysis of polyblend shows a lower wavelength shift due to the formation of hydrogen bonds between polymers. SEM analysis shows that the polyblend of PLA/PCL’s film surface is more evenly distributed and regular than the addition of PVA plasticizer gives morphology of polyblend become irregular and tend to be hollow. The TGA analysis of the polyblend has decreased thermal stability compared of constituent polymers due to the low interaction between polymers.
