Cordierite dibuat dengan menggunakan reaksi solid state dengan rasio molar MgO: Al2O3: SiO2 sebanyak 2: 2: 5, kemudian MgO ditambahkan untuk menghasilkan sampel dengan penambahan 10 dan 15% MgO. Sampel dilakukan sintering pada suhu 1250&#xB0;C selama 3 jam. Selanjutnya sampel dikarakterisasi untuk menentukan konduktivitas termal, densitas, porositas dan penyusutan. Nilai konduktivitas termal diperoleh pada rentang 2,91-3,16 (W/m.K). Secara keseluruhan dapat disimpulkan bahwa penambahan MgO pada cordierite meningkatkan konduktivitas termal dan porositas, sedangkan untuk densitas dan penyusutan menalami penurunan.&#xD; Kata Kunci: Cordierite, magnesium oksida, metode padatan, silika sekam padi.&#xD; THERMAL CHARACTERISTIC (DTA/TGA) AND THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF CORDIERITE (2MgO.2Al2O3.5SiO2) BASED RICE HUSK SILICA EFFECT ADDITION OF MgO (0, 10, 15wt%) &#xD; This study was carried out to investigate the effect of MgO addition on some physical characteristics of cordierite synthesized from rice husk silica, MgO, and Al2O3. Cordierite was prepared using solid state reaction with the molar ratio of MgO : Al2O3 : SiO2 of 2 : 2 : 5, and then extra MgO was added to produce the samples with 10 and 15 % MgO addition. The samples were subjected to sintering treatment at 1250&#xB0;C for 3 hours. The samples were further characterized to determine thermal conductivity, density, porosity, and shrinkage. Thermal conductivity values obtained are in the range of 2.91-3.16 (W/m.K). Overall it was found that addition of MgO to cordierite increased thermal conductivity and porosity, while for density and shrinkage the opposite is true.
