- Patchouli oil is essential oil which obtained from distillation of patchouli plants. Patchouli oil have an important role in the fragrance and cosmetics industry as raw material. Indonesia supplies 70% - 90% of the world's needs every year. The farmers worrying about the fluctuating price of patchouli oil. It is necessary to increase the yield of patchouli oil to reduce the cost of production so that the risk of loss can be minimized. An alternative way to increase yield is to improve patchouli drying method. The study aims to determine the effect of patchouli drying treatment and find out the treatment which gives the best results on patchouli oil. The research was conducted at the Research and Development Laboratory of PT. Tarutama Nusantara. This research was conducted using non factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD). The factors used were the differences in the way of drying with 6 levels consisting of 9 days wind drying (P0), 1 hour sun drying followed by 9 days wind drying (P1), 2 hours sun drying followed by 9 days wind drying (P2), 3 hours sun drying followed by 9 days wind drying (P3), 4 hours sun drying followed by 9 days wind drying (P4), 5 hours sun drying followed by 9 days wind drying (P5) and 4 repetitions using Steam and water distillation methods. The results showed that differences treatment in materials drying duration with sun drying had a significant effect on the yield of material and had no significant effect on water content, oil volume, oil weight and yield of patchouli oil. Patchouli oil was yellow and the alcohol levels were all above 30% which meets standard of Patchouli oil accordance to SNI (Indonesian Standardization). The best treatment was drying for 9 days by the drying wind method.
- Minyak atsiri yang diperoleh dari penyulingan tanaman nilam disebut minyak nilam. Minyak nilam berperan penting sebagai bahan baku dalam industri pewangi dan kosmetika. Indonesia setiap tahun memasok minyak nilam dari 70% - 90% kebutuhan dunia. Namun petani khawatir terhadap harga minyak nilam yang fluktuatif. Sehingga perlu upaya peningkatan rendemen minyak nilam guna menekan harga pokok produksi agar resiko kerugian dapat diminimalisir. Alternatif meningkatkan rendemen adalah dengan memperbaiki cara pengeringan nilam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perlakuan cara pengeringan nilam dan mengetahui perlakuan yang memberikan hasil terbaik terhadap minyak nilam. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Penelitian dan Pengembangan PT. Tarutama Nusantara. Penelitian dilaksanakan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) non faktorial. Faktor yang digunakan yaitu perbedaan cara pengeringan dengan 6 taraf yang terdiri dari kering angin selama 9 hari (P0), kering matahari selama 1 jam diikuti kering angin selama 9 hari (P1), kering matahari selama 2 jam diikuti kering angin selama 9 hari (P2), kering matahari selama 3 jam diikuti kering angin selama 9 hari (P3), kering matahari selama 4 jam diikuti kering angin selama 9 hari (P4), kering matahari selama 5 jam diikuti kering angin selama 9 hari (P5) dan 4 ulangan menggunakan penyulingan metode uap dan air. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan berupa perbedaan durasi penjemuran bahan dengan sinar matahari berpengaruh nyata terhadap rendemen bahan dan berpengaruh tidak nyata terhadap kadar air, volume minyak, berat minyak dan rendemen minyak nilam. Minyak nilam berwarna kuning dan kadar patchuoli alkohol semua perlakuan di atas 30% sehingga sesuai dengan SNI. Perlakuan terbaik adalah metode pengeringan kering angina selama 9 hari.
