  • English has a very important role and position in the era of globalization. It means that teaching English as an International communication is an obligatory for the people all over the world. In mastering English language and developing positive attitudes towards the learning of English as a foreign language, studying teaching techniques is badly needed. In this study, the researcher mainly focused on the vocabulary teaching technique used by the teacher to the fourth grade students at SDN Bakalan­Pasuruan. The purposes of this study were: 1) to know the techniques that the English teacher applied in teaching vocabulary to the fourth grade students at SDN Bakalan­Pasuruan, 2) to describe how the teacher applied those techniques in teaching vocabulary to the fourth grade students at SDN Bakalan­Pasuruan, and 3) to describe the students’ responses toward the techniques applied by the teacher in teaching vocabulary to the fourth grade students at SDN Bakalan­Pasuruan. This study used descriptive design and the subject of the study was the English teacher at SDN Bakalan­Pasuruan and the fourth grade students at SDN Bakalan­Pasuruan. This study had no sample because all the members of population were investigated. So that it is called as population research. To obtain and find out the data, this study used three kinds of instruments. Those were observation, interview, and questionnaire. Furthermore, the researcher set up the observational check list, recorded the interview with the teacher, and distributed questionnaires to the students. The result of this study showed that the teacher used six kinds of technique when she taught vocabulary to the students. The techniques were flashcards or pictures technique, translation technique, game technique, the type of example technique, singing a song technique, and guessing words technique. Most of students gave positive responses toward the technique applied by the teacher. Only some students gave negative responses toward the technique applied by the teacher.
