- In foreign language teaching, reading comprehension is very important skill to be taught because it can be used to improve reading ability not only text book but also other reading materials. So, as a teacher, he should apply his teaching techniques well, in order that the students were attracted to his teaching and arouse positive attitude toward his teaching reading techniques. Based on Susianti (2002:23), whether children read or not is determined by their attitude toward reading. Based on this fact, the present study tried to investigate the attitude of the students toward teaching techniques used in reading class at SLTP Muhammadiyah 6 Dau Malang, whether the teachers’ techniques can improve the students positive attitude or not. To find out the phenomenon, the present study used a descriptive study. The population of this study is the second year student of SLTP Muhammadiyah malang. The research takes class IIA as the sample that consists of 33 students. The data collected by using questionnaire. The questionnaires involved three techniques: discussion, lecturing and reading with comprehension, and divided into 15 items. Each technique involved 5 items. The result shows that in discussion technique used by the teacher, the students’ attitude was negative. But in lecturing and reading with comprehension techniques students have very positive attitude toward those teaching techniques.
