  • The basic of sentence is subject and verb. It is very important to understand the agreement of subject and verb. Since students get problems in subjects and verbs in their writing even in their theses writing, it shows that students still do not understand about subject­verb agreement well. Based on the consideration above, it is very important to analyze and classify types of subject­ verb agreement errors and to know the frequency of occurrence of each type of subject­verb agreement errors in writing paragraph of fourth semester students of English Department at University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This study used descriptive qualitative and quantitative research because the aims of this study were to describe types of subject­verb agreement errors and to determine the frequency of occurrence of each type of subject­verb agreement errors of students’ writing paragraph. The population of this study was writing paragraph of fourth semester students and 38 students’ writing paragraph from F and J class as the sample of this study by using clustering random sampling. This study used documents to collect the data. The documents of this study were writing paragraph. From the data analysis, the students made 118 errors from 38 students’ writing paragraph. The types of subject­verb agreement errors were 97 (82.21%) errors of basic subject­verb agreement, 12 (10.17%) errors of subject­verb agreement: using expression of quantity, 1 (0.85%) error of subject­verb agreement: using there + be, 1 (0.85%) error of subject­verb agreement: some irregularities, 2 (1.69%) errors of subject­verb agreement: indefinite pronouns, and 5 (4.23%) errors of subject­verb agreement: who, which and that. However there was no error of subject­ verb agreement: doesn’t and don’t used with pronouns. Based on the percentage of each type of subject­verb agreement errors, it was found out the highest frequency of the errors was basic subject­verb agreement error (82.21%). It can be concluded that students’ errors on the use of subject­verb agreement showed that students still got difficulties in differences between singular and plural verbs or singular and plural subjects.
