- Human being as social creatures, in going through a period of life, must make interpersonal social interaction reciprocally, and so do the attention on adolescents’ life, both in positive and negative nature. In relation to social adjustment, it is occurred some changes in adolescence, either in their physical or cognitive. These changes give impact in adolescents’ psychosocial development changes. In the psychosocial development, adolescents are often dealt with some problems like the difficulty to conduct social adjustment. One of aspects, which can overcome the problem, is self-confidence. It is needed to develop his/her self and to overcome problems in adolescents’ life, because adolescents experience new things in this period that differ from pervious period, both from their own self and from attitude received by environment. Adolescents as social creatures live in community are expected to be able to interact with others in order to be said as individual who can adjusts well according to growing stages and his/her ages. This research has purposed to know whether there is correlation between self-confidence with social adjustment. This research represents non-experimental research. Research population is students of Economy Faculty generation 2007 with 93 respondents are taken as the sample by using accidental sampling technique. Data collecting technique uses Likert scale that consisted of two scales: self-confidence scale and social adjustment scale. While, data analysis technique uses product moment correlation using computer program of SPSS 12.0 for windows. From data analysis result, it is obtained (r = 0.937 and p = 0.000) that categorized into very significant. It means that there is positive correlation and very significant between self-confidence with social adjustment on adolescents, where the higher adolescents’ self-confidence the better his/her social adjustment and conversely, the lower adolescents’ self-confidence the worse his/her social adjustment. Self-confidence effective contribution to social adjustment is 87.7%, while its remains, 12.2%, is obtained from other variables.
